17 “For the (A)violence [a]done to Lebanon will [b]overwhelm you,
And the devastation of its beasts [c]by which you terrified them,
(B)Because of human bloodshed and (C)violence [d]done to the land,
To the town and all its inhabitants.

18 “What (D)profit is the [e]idol when its maker has carved it,
Or [f]an image, a (E)teacher of falsehood?
For its maker (F)trusts in his own handiwork
When he fashions speechless idols.
19 “Woe to him who (G)says to a piece of wood, ‘(H)Awake!’
To a mute stone, ‘Arise!’
And that is your teacher?
Behold, it is overlaid with (I)gold and silver,
And there is (J)no breath at all inside it.
